DIY: Cavas Wall Art Decals

I've been on a hunt for the right wall art for our guest bathroom. The colors in there are yellow, gray & white. It's either hit or miss with Home Goods, TJ Maxx, Ross, etc. I did find a word art that I liked but of course it was the wrong color. So this time it was a miss. However, I did find some bathroom word decals at Target later that day and it was in gray writing. I guess with all my searching this was the next best option.

Since I'm renting a house, I felt like it was a waste of money to place the decal on the wall, only to one day leave and scrap the whole thing. Light bulb! Add it to a canvas. Wait white is a bit boring since the walls are already white... Hello I can paint on a canvas. So off I went to get my canvas, paint a a few other items for Easter. With so many color variations I knew I wasn't going to get a perfect match. Of course it wasn't but it does match the towels in the bathroom.

With wall decals, I'm used to applying the word to the wall and using a credit card to scrape over the letters and only the letters adhered to the wall. It wasn't the same thing for these decals. It was a strip of each word attached to a clear sticker that was not closely cut to each letter. So pretty I can pretty much I can see the clear sticker where the spacing of the letters are. To seal the deal I had to go over it with matte Modge Podge. On a bright note. You can easily take off the decal and arrange it again if you make a mistake with alignment. (This will not work if it's placed on a wall. It will eventually lose stickiness and on canvas you seal it proof with Modge Podge) Plus, it's sure is cheery and I can take it where ever I move next.

Also, I realized 1 coat was perfect for the color I wanted to achieve. I had applied 2 coats, 1 hour in between and it came out a bit too orangey. I went back with a rag, water and alcohol and took off some of the 2 coat of paint.

Overall, this is a quick and simple DIY canvas word art that you can pretty much do for any room with the right words. Total Cost: $25 and it's custom.

I'm Back

Hello All! So many things took place from 2012 - 2013 and I was unable to continue my blog. I'm back and on a mission in 2014. With so many inspirations on Pinterest and from such talented bloggers, I took up a new hobby... Refinishing Furniture!

We recently moved into a rental house. It's been a while since I've been in one and this sparked so many thoughts and ideas to start my own projects. Brand new house, more space and a garage, all recipes for DIY projects! Working on a few pieces right now and it has been quite a learning experience. Boy is it addicting, therapeutic, and I enjoy learning new life skills. For now here is a sneak peak at some of the pieces. I am fairly new at this so of course I did this the long way. No chalk paint here.
